The Lctub polyadenylation signal is a transcriptional termination and polyadenylation sequence derived from Lucilia cuprina. It contains the regulatory motifs required for proper cleavage of the nascent messenger RNA transcript, addition of a 3′ polyadenylated tail, and termination of transcription. These processes are essential for mRNA stability, nuclear export, and efficient translation of the encoded protein.

Unlike promoters or coding sequences, the Lctub polyA element does not encode a protein. Its function is regulatory, acting at the 3′ end of a transcription unit to ensure proper processing of RNA transcripts produced from upstream genes. 

Polyadenylation signals are widely used in genetic engineering because they improve transcript stability and proper gene expression by directing formation of the poly(A) tail on mature mRNA molecules.
